The People Behind the Production

HB Live is an independent event production company headquartered in Connecticut, bringing over three decades of experience in live events, audiovisual production, and technical innovation.

Founded in 1988, HB Live originated when HB Communications recognized a growing opportunity in the live event and AV rental market. They established HB Group, Inc. as an independent affiliate of HB Communications, operating as a separate company with its own leadership, finances, and staff.

Over the years, HB Group earned a reputation for reliability, innovation, and a people-first approach that built lasting relationships with clients and venues across the Northeast. As live production became the company’s primary focus, HB Group rebranded to HB Live in 2013. Today, HB Live is a trusted production partner serving Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, united by one guiding belief — “We’ve Got Each Other’s Backs.” That team-first spirit continues to define who we are: a close-knit group of professionals dedicated to delivering exceptional results for every client, every time.

Our Journey

1946

HB Communications is founded

HB Communications is founded (North Haven, CT), established by Mackey Barron.

1988

HB Group, Inc. is founded

HB Communications recognized a growing demand for audio-visual rental and live event services. Together, they founded HB Group, Inc., an independent affiliate of HB Communications.

The relationship between the companies quickly becomes symbiotic as clients demand a broader range of services from both organizations. While the two companies shared a common lineage and often collaborated to meet client needs, HB Group operated as a separate and independently managed business, with distinct staff, finances, and operations.

This structure allowed HB Group to serve a broader range of clients while maintaining its own identity and focus on live event production.

(Note: HB Group, Inc. was never a subsidiary of HB Communications; the organizations remained affiliated but independently governed.)

1996

HB Communications and HB Group, Inc move locations.

Both companies move into neighboring facilities in North Haven, CT, where they operated separately but collaboratively for the next 25 years.

2000s

HB Group, Inc. builds reputation and trust through word of mouth

The company builds a reputation for reliability, innovation, and a people-first culture that earns long-term partnerships with clients and venues. HB Group, Inc. continues to forge deep trust with enterprise organizations, acquiring 95% of new clients through word of mouth and reputation.

2007

HB Group is a founding member of the Rental and Staging Network.

HB Group, Inc. became a founding member of the Rental and Staging Network (RSN), a national collective of leading live event and staging companies. This affiliation elevated HB’s industry visibility and collaboration standards.

2013

HB Group, Inc. rebrands to HB Live, Inc.

HB Group, Inc. rebrands to HB Live, Inc. to reflect a focus on live events and production.  For the next 7 years, HB Live grows it’s reach beyond the local region to produce projects worldwide.

In the late 2010’s Bob Anderson and Howard Barron retired, leaving Dana Barron as the sole owner of HB Live.

During the COVID pandemic, HB Live digs in and crafts solutions to help clients produce events in an uncertain climate.  With reduced staff and a determined focus, they become a critical partner to clients hosting corporate hybrid events.

2015

HB Live, Inc. maintains it’s membership with EPN

Rental and Staging Network rebrands as Event Production Network (EPN). HB Live maintains its membership and is listed on eventproductionnetwork.org.

2021

HB Communications is acquired by Diversified; HB Live, Inc. stands independently

HB Communications is acquired by Diversified. HB Live, Inc. stands as a fully independent production company, trusted by clients in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut for live events that connect people, brands, and ideas through the power of human collaboration and Audio Visual technology.

2022

HB Live, Inc. relocated to a new office

HB Live, Inc. relocates from 60 Dodge Avenue to 57 Dodge Avenue, directly across the street in North Haven, CT.

To commemorate their 15th anniversary, the Rental and Staging Network (RSN) rebrands to become the Event Production Network (EPN). HB Live’s Donald Guzauckas, Jr. maintains a continuous position on the EPN Board of Governors.

2023

HB Live unveils a refreshed website and clearly defines core service offerings

HB Live unveils a refreshed digital presence with a redesigned website that better reflects the company's commitment to innovation and client experience. The rebrand clearly defines HB Live's core service offerings: live event production and audio visual services.

This positions HB Live as Connecticut's trusted full-service event solutions provider, dedicated to delivering seamless live, hybrid, and virtual events through cutting-edge technology and expert collaboration.

Our story is one of independence and purpose. While HB Live shares a legacy name with HB Communications, we've always charted our own course. When HB Communications was acquired by One Diversified, HB Live remained fully independent, led by the original people who built the relationships, expertise, and culture that continue to define us today.

That independence allows us to stay agile, service-focused, and grounded in what matters most: the people behind the equipment. At HB Live, we don’t just provide technology,  we show up with heart. Every cable run, lighting cue, and camera angle reflects the care, experience, and teamwork of a crew that truly loves what they do.
